What NXFX is, and Aims to be...

NXFX is a growing library of effects for DaVinci Resolve that animate without keyframes. The aim is to cover as many effects as possible, all built on one shared ecosystem, so the tools work together instead of behaving like a folder of unrelated presets.

Power and simplicity usually pull against each other. Refusing that tradeoff is the point of NXFX. Every tool is built to give you enough control to hit the exact look you want, with an interface simple enough that you are not fighting it to get there.

Right now the library holds around 40 tools across animation, color, distortion, masking and more, and it keeps growing.

One Ecosystem

Every tool runs on the same slider and button interface, with no keyframes. You set a look and control the timing with a few sliders and buttons, and trim the clip without re-animating. The controls sit in the same place and behave the same way from one tool to the next.

That is what the shared ecosystem gets you. You learn it once and you know them all. No new learning curve for every new effect. Learn the Cores, the Copy and Paste system, and X-Mask one time, and every pack reads the same way.

This page covers those shared mechanics.

Animation Cores (No Keyframes)

Animation in NXFX is driven by sliders, not keyframes. Two Cores handle timing, and the difference between them is simply when the animation plays.

AutoCore

You set the animation length with a slider, or by clicking a Set Anim button, which sets the animation length from the beginning of the clip to the playhead. You can also Offset the start of the animation in the same way with an Offset Anim button.

Then you pick a mode:

  • OFF - No animation.
  • In - Animation plays In at the start of the clip.
  • In & Out - The animation plays In at the start of the clip and Out at the end.
  • Out - The animation plays Out at the start of the clip.

The length of animation stays fixed. The placement adapts. Trim the clip shorter or longer and the out-animation moves to the new end, still the same length you set. You are not re-timing anything, AutoCore follows the clip.

If you don't want the animation to be tied to the timeline clip start and end, you can set a virtual start and end with a range control, and the animation will retime accordingly. Easing of the animation can be set with Ease In and Ease Out presets, or custom Curve you adjust.

AutoCore runs most of the library, the Auto effects across Basic, Color, Advanced and Special, along with a few others.

DuraCore

DuraCore animates across the full clip, first frame to last. The clip is the duration, so there is nothing to set. Trim the clip shorter or longer and the animation fits the new length. You never re-time anything.

You set the animation by its start and end values. DuraCore moves from one to the other across the whole clip.

If you don't want the animation to run across the entire clip, you can set a virtual start and end with a range control, and the animation will play across that range instead. Easing of the animation can be set with Ease In and Ease Out presets, or custom Curve you adjust.

DuraCore runs the animators, the Motion and Path Animators in Motion FX and their generator versions.

Copy and Paste

DaVinci Resolve's native copy and paste has a limit. Copying a clip's effects and pasting them (Ctrl+C, Alt+V) replaces the entire Fusion Effects layer. It deletes every effect already on the target clip and drops in the copied ones. So if you have built up a few effects on a clip and tuned their values, you cannot paste another effect on top without losing what is already there.

The NXFX Copy and Paste system solves that, and goes further.

  • Copy the whole effect: Copy ALL takes every control value from an effect (except X-Mask) and pastes it into the same effect on another clip.
  • Copy one part at a time: Every effect breaks its controls into pages each of which has separate Copy and Paste buttons. You can copy just the animation timing and keep the look, or copy just the look and keep the timing. Lift only the part you want.
  • Carry animation across effects: On AutoCore effects, animation Copy and Paste works every time. (Example: Set the timing on Auto Blur, then paste it straight into Auto Glitch.) DuraCore effects have more specific controls, so their animation copies between tools that share the same interface.
  • Matching pages copy across tools too: When two different tools share a similar control page, the values usually carry between them.
  • X-Mask has its own Copy and Paste: Masking copies separately, with its own buttons, so a mask carries across clips on its own.

The only things that do not copy are controls without fixed values, custom paths, curves and the like.

Technical Warning: Copy and Paste run through your clipboard. A Copy button writes its values to the clipboard, and Paste reads them back. So if you copy something else in between, text, a file, anything, that overwrites the values, then Paste will do nothing. Copy, then paste, with nothing in between.

X-Mask

X-Mask is the NXFX masking system. It shows up two ways:

  • As its own tool: X-Mask masks any clip on its own. You pick a shape, rectangle, ellipse, polyline or B-spline, and mask with it. Polyline and B-spline let you draw your own shape point by point for anything the preset shapes don't cover.
  • Built into effects: The same masking is embedded inside most NXFX effects, so you can limit an effect to part of the frame without adding a separate mask tool. Blur only a corner, glow only a subject, correct color only inside a shape. The mask controls sit in the same place and work the same way as the standalone tool.

X-Mask is not in every tool. There are a few exceptions where masking does not make sense.

The mask has its own Copy and Paste buttons, separate from the rest of the effect, so a mask carries across clips on its own (Polyline and B-spline do not copy, because they are path based).

NX Search Codes

Every NXFX tool is tagged with a search code, so you can find what you need by typing in the effects library search instead of scrolling.

  • Nx - finds every NXFX tool
  • NxE - finds effects
  • NxG - finds generators

Add the pack number to narrow it down:

FX Packs:

  • NxE1 - Motion FX
  • NxE2 - Basic FX
  • NxE3 - Color FX
  • NxE4 - Advanced FX
  • NxE5 - Special FX
  • NxE6 - Overlay FX

G-FX Packs:

  • NxG1 - Loaders (image generators)
  • NxG2 - Indicator G-FX

Example: Type NxE2 and you see the Basic FX effects and nothing else.

Install

NXFX installs as .drfx files.

  • Unzip the downloaded .zip folder
  • Double-click the .drfx file
  • DaVinci Resolve will ask you if you want to install the pack
  • Click YES
  • Restart DaVinci Resolve

No plugins, no dependencies, no manual folder placement. The tools appear in your Effects and Generators library, ready to be used.
